Exposition of unique samples of Soviet computers and encryption hardware will be located in historic “sharashka” (R&D institute with forced labor) in Marfino featured in Alexander Solzhenitsyn’s “In the first circle”.

Exposition will feature encryption and computer hardware, many of which remain in single quantities. Concept and design of first museum of Russian scientific developments in data security will be completed in the near future.

“Britain and the US already have museums that tell about cryptographic achievements of these countries. This topic has been popularized there long time ago – nearly everybody knows about allies cracking “Enigma” codes and other achievements of cryptographers of that time. But few people know about our encryption hardware of 40s and 50s, like soviet encryption machine “Fialka”, which has never been cracked and remained a secret until the recent past. Meanwhile, it’s a very interesting area that keeps a lot of mysteries and myths, where our science and industry have been dealing with challenges of data protection and technology advancement for decades. Our museum is to change the situation”, – as told by Vartan Hachaturov – general manager of NPK Kryptonite.

A newly created company is planning to perform a full-scale repair of a historic building of Aleksandro-Mariinsky orphanage. During the Soviet time this building housed one of special enterprises that employed highly-qualified prisoners and scientists. It developed hardware for radio intelligence, telephone ecnryptors, performer crypto-analysis of telephone communications. In particular, during 1947-1949 it employed Alexander Solzhenitsyn as a matematician. Nowadays the building is located on the territory of Rostec’s Avtomatica concern.

New exhibition is expected to open its doors for public during next 3 years.
